Neighborhood Pride
Neighborhood Pride is an employment program where the youth can gain appropriate workplace competencies and work maturity. They learn the expectations of an employer and create healthy peer relationships, as well as appropriate workplace attire and behaviors. Lessons include the importance of being on time and keeping a good attendance record throughout the program as they are apart of a team, and their absence directly affects their co -workers. They are encouraged to take an active role in creating program rules and expectations. They build pride in their neighborhoods. An educational component adds journal writing, resume writing, team building, self -expression, connecting with the outdoors, physical, emotional & intellectual challenges, and a host of other community outreach programs. The program is designed to help build a sense of pride in the community and themselves. The program gives the youth a chance to work and socialize with other individuals that they may not otherwise connect with outside in their daily lives and breaks down barriers and social stigmas that hinder personal growth.
